About the client

Petra & Pavla Clinic is a private medical center in Kyiv specializing in addiction treatment, psychiatry, psychotherapy, rehabilitation, and related mental health services.

The clinic provides both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs while maintaining an extensive educational section with medical articles, treatment information, and patient guidance.

By the beginning of this project, the website had already accumulated a substantial amount of published content and search engine visibility, making it an important long-term business asset rather than simply a marketing website.

Initial situation

The existing website had been built on an obsolete WordPress-derived CMS that had long since reached the end of its practical lifecycle.

The platform was no longer maintained, technical issues became increasingly frequent, and further development on top of the existing system was no longer a sustainable option.

At the same time, the website contained years of accumulated content and already occupied valuable positions in search engine results.

For that reason, replacing the website without preserving its existing structure was not considered an acceptable solution.

Project goals

The primary objective was to rebuild the entire website on a modern WordPress architecture while preserving everything that already worked well from the user’s and search engine’s perspective.

This included maintaining the existing URL structure, transferring all published content, modernizing the visual presentation, and creating a system that would remain maintainable for years to come.

No finished design or visual specification was provided.

Instead, several Astra starter templates were presented as possible directions, one of which was selected as the foundation and further customized throughout the project according to the client’s feedback.

Content migration and website architecture

The redevelopment involved considerably more than creating a new homepage.

More than 130 pages and 126 blog posts were recreated within the new system while preserving the existing content hierarchy and URL structure.

During migration, the content itself was also carefully reviewed.

Numerous textual inconsistencies, formatting issues, and language discrepancies between the two language versions were corrected as part of the implementation process rather than simply copied into the new system.

The project therefore combined technical migration with large-scale content refinement.

Multilingual implementation

The website was implemented as a bilingual system using Polylang together with its supporting extensions.

Language-specific media libraries were organized from the beginning, making future content maintenance considerably simpler.

One of the more unusual technical challenges concerned the existing URL structure.

Historically, the original website had used Russian as its primary language, and changing the established URLs would have negatively affected search visibility.

To preserve the accumulated SEO value while complying with current Ukrainian language requirements, an additional language selection mechanism was implemented, allowing visitors to choose their preferred language on their first visit without changing the long-established address structure.

Technical implementation

The rebuilt website was developed using Astra Pro together with Gutenberg and Spectra Pro, providing a lightweight and maintainable editing environment.

Besides standard informational pages, the implementation included numerous interactive elements such as contact forms, expandable content sections, multilingual media handling, embedded video through Presto Player, popup components, structured navigation, and large-scale content organization suitable for a medical information resource.

Development was carried out on the contractor’s hosting environment.

After completion, the entire website was cloned to the client’s hosting and domain, where the production version was launched.

Result

The client received a completely rebuilt corporate medical website based on a modern WordPress architecture while preserving years of accumulated content, search visibility, and established navigation.

The project combined platform replacement, visual redesign, multilingual implementation, and large-scale content migration into a single structured redevelopment process.

Instead of merely updating the appearance, the project established a significantly more stable technical foundation capable of supporting the clinic’s future growth.

Notes

Like most long-running business websites, this project continued evolving after delivery.

The client later introduced additional design and content changes independently as the website became part of the clinic’s day-to-day workflow.

For this reason, the version presented in this portfolio reflects the original release created during development, preserving the implementation as it was delivered at the completion of the project rather than its later editorial evolution.
